I have worked with screw threads since 1972 in Los Angles first as a drill press operator. Looking for better opportunity I then went to for Pennoyer-Dodge Gage Company in the manufacturing of precision thread gages 1972-75, and 1979 till 1987. My duties included set up and operation various types of grinding to include O.D., I.D. Thread Grinders, Blanchard Grinder, and Surface Grinders. I also thread ground lead screws for five years at Cal-Micro in San Jose CA and Osborn Mfg in the Phoenix Area. I have also used chuckers, lathes, and mills.
I also have thread ground thread rolling dies at Noll MFG. in San Louis Obispo CA. area where I worked as a thread roller and a machinist and centerless grinder.
Over the years I have used various inspection equipment such as J&L optical comparator's, Micro View video comparator, surface plate & indicator, measurement over wires.
Since 1992 I have been involved with the thread rolling of precision lead screws. I am familiar with the Tesker, Kinefac, and Swiss made Thommen CNC thread rollers, which I had the pleasure to go to Switzerland to qualify for purchase. I have rolled lead screws as small as 1.8 X .375mm four start. I do the purchasing of dies, grinding wheels for the centerless grinder, tools, and tooling for the thread rolling section using the corporation’s Oracle software.
I familiar with Microsoft Excel and Access, Word, Oracle. I am also familiar with inspection and documentation mostly with Excel. I have created reports using Access, Excel and Word.
I also do the purchasing of steel, thread rolling dies, and other supplies for my section. Using email I can get bids from several suppliers. Also manage the dies for the thread rolling section. I keep inventory of records of almost 400 dies for my section using Access database I created.
As the lead man in my section I am a hands on type and a can work well with others as a team member. My other duties include the company safety committee, Christmas party committee, disposal of the hazardous material. I was also involved in the creation of the IIPP, Hazardous Material Business Plan
Just a little of my work experience.
Pennoyer Dodge 1972-75 and 79-87
My basic duties were to thread grind gages and laps for the ring gages
The gages for the most part had a +.0003 tolerance
My secondary job was back up the OD grinder and I did a little ID grinding, lots of manual surface grinding, center lapping, annealing using an induction device.
Inspection equipment we used we J&L optical comparators, Measurement over wires using super mics, Pratt and Whitney lead checker. I still own a 0-1 set of Etalon indicator mics.
Also we did most of the repairs on our thread grinders including rebuilding the dressers of which we had the universal style dresser, flat dressers, and cradle dressers which we would change depending on the thread form and pitch.
Cal-Micro in San Jose CA, my basic duties was to thread grinding precision lead screws, OD grinding, centerless grinding,
From 1993 on except for a little over a year I have been at my present job in the thread rolling department where I am the lead man. I have 4 thread rollers including a Swiss made Thommen PR17 of which I was lucky enough to go to Switzerland to test and train on. I have one Cincinnati #2 ea-om conversion centerless grinder.
